Lev V. Idels is Professor of Mathematics at Vancouver Island University with expertise in differential equations and mathematical biology. He serves as Associate Editor for Applied Mathematical Modelling and has held visiting positions at universities worldwide including Tokyo, Hong Kong, and McGill.
Education: Ph.D., Michigan State University; M.S.W., Wayne State University; B.S., Michigan State University
Research interests include neural networks, cancer dynamics, dynamical systems control, and mathematical modeling of biological processes. His work applies advanced mathematical techniques to ecological and physiological systems.
Publications demonstrate consistent focus on time-delay systems in biological contexts, particularly models of angiogenesis, fisheries management, and population dynamics. Mathematical techniques include stability analysis, bifurcation theory, and numerical simulations.
Awards: Distinguished Researcher Award (2018), Provost's Scholarship, NSERC grants, and Dean's Research Fund. His research has been supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
Course development includes Numerical Analysis with Matlab, History of Mathematics, Mathematical Biology, and Mathematical Modeling.
