Dr. Leslie Zorwick is a Professor of Psychology at Hendrix College, serving as Chair of the Psychology Department and Chair of the campus Committee on Diversity and Dialogue since 2007. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and Philosophy from Emory University (2000), and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology from The Ohio State University (2003, 2007).
Her research focuses on stereotyping, prejudice reduction, identity, and perspective-taking, with specific interests in teacher-student dynamics, gender stereotypes, intergroup contact, and legal system perceptions. She has developed programs to enhance empathy and inclusive academic communities, notably through National Science Foundation STEM Scholars grants.
Dr. Zorwick has presented widely on bias mitigation, inclusive education, and racial justice, including invited talks at Rocky Vista University, Southwestern University, and the Society for Personality and Social Psychology. She advises organizations like Emory University, Spanx, and YWCA on diversity initiatives and has served as an expert witness in federal discrimination cases.
Her teaching includes courses on social psychology, stereotyping, statistics, and psychology & law. She emphasizes applied research with students, focusing on strategies to foster dialogue about racial justice and inclusive classroom practices.
Grants and awards include leadership in Hendrix’s STEM Scholars program and the Margaret Berry Hutton Odyssey Professorship. She actively promotes civic education through debate and advocacy training, linking psychological principles to real-world social justice challenges.
