Leslie Welch is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cognitive and Psychological Sciences at Brown University, affiliated with the Center for Vision Research and the Carney Institute for Brain Sciences. She holds a PhD (1990) and BA (1982) in Vision Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on visual perception mechanisms, particularly motion perception, space perception, and integration of visual information. She explores how the brain processes spatial and temporal visual cues, with emphasis on hemispheric asymmetries and attentional effects.
Teaching includes courses such as CLPS 0050W (Color Perception), CLPS 1580C (Visualizing Information), and CLPS 1901 (Research Methods). Her work bridges interdisciplinary education through collaborations between art and science. Office hours are Wednesdays 11-12 or by appointment in Room 336.
Research trends in her publications emphasize temporal perception, visual attention, and spatiotemporal integration. Her 2010-2016 studies investigate perceptual learning mechanisms, hemifield asymmetries, and adaptation effects in motion and orientation discrimination. Earlier work (2003-2004) explores category learning and 3D object recognition.
No scientific awards are listed, but her contributions span over 25 years at Brown. Advising and grants sections remain unspecified, though her teaching and research collaborations suggest active involvement in academic mentorship. She maintains affiliations with multiple interdisciplinary research centers focused on vision and brain sciences.
