Leslie Koptcho is a Professor at the College of Art & Design, Louisiana State University. Her interdisciplinary practice bridges printmaking, book arts, and scientific observation, utilizing traditional and digital techniques to explore themes of identity and biological structures.
- BFA from Tyler School of Art
- MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art
Koptcho’s research focuses on the metaphor of skin as a boundary between appearance and inner complexity, informed by microscopic analysis (light, SEM, TEM) of organic materials. Her work challenges printmaking’s association with duplication by emphasizing individuality through series-based explorations.
Exhibitions include the Seoul Art Museum, LSU Museum of Art, and international biennials in Portugal, Malaysia, and Japan. Her scientific awards include:
- Yaddo Fellowship
- American Cultural Specialist Designation (US Information Agency, India)
- Louisiana Board of Regents ATLAS Grant
Koptcho directs LSU’s Printmaking in Florence summer intersession program and has held leadership roles with the Southern Graphics Council and American Print Alliance. Her work is archived in 35 global collections, including Harvard’s Fogg Art Museum and Bibliotheque National de France.
