Dr Lesley Anne Lace is a Senior Lecturer (part-time at 0.4 FTE) in the Department of Natural Sciences at Manchester Metropolitan University, specializing in invertebrate ecology and conservation biology. She has been employed at MMU since 1991, focusing on small populations and island endemic species, particularly land snails and butterflies in Madeira and the Canary Islands.

- PhD: Genetic and morphological variation in populations of the Madeiran land snail Heterostoma paupercula
Research Interests:
- Conservation of island endemics
- Population genetics of invertebrates
- Species interactions (competition between butterfly species)

Teaching & Supervision:
- Coordinates undergraduate units in Diversity and Conservation Biology
- Teaches across all undergraduate levels and MSc programs
- Supervises UG/MSc projects on Madeiran ecosystems
- Runs field courses in Tanzania (with MMU's partnership at CAWM) and Madeira
Fieldwork:
- 19-year field course history in Tanzania (paused due to pandemic, resuming in 2023)
- Active in Madeira with student-led field projects
