Leontine Benedicenti, DVM, DACVIM, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences & Advanced Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery at Ryan Veterinary Hospital. Her clinical expertise focuses on inflammatory brain diseases and seizure treatments in canine patients.
She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Milan, Italy (2004), followed by extensive neurology training: a rotating internship (2008-2009), Neurology internship (2010-2011) at the University of Guelph, and specialty Neurology internship (2011-2012) with residency (2012-2015) at the University of Pennsylvania. She achieved board certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Neurology) in 2016 after serving as a Lecturer at Penn Vet for two years.
Dr. Benedicenti's research spans inflammatory brain disorders, novel epilepsy treatments (including CBD oil safety/efficacy studies in dogs), and innovative educational technologies such as augmented reality and 3D printing for veterinary training. She is actively developing a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biobank to advance neurological research.
Her nine publications (2015-2021) demonstrate consistent focus on veterinary neurology, particularly canine myasthenia gravis, meningoencephalitis, intracranial pathologies, and diagnostic methodologies, often through clinical case reports and translational studies bridging immunology and neurology.
