معرفی
Leonid Bulavin serves as Professor and Head of the Chair of Molecular Physics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv's Faculty of Physics, a position held since 1989. He previously served as Dean of the Faculty (1990-2007) and was elected Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2005 after serving as Corresponding Member (1995-2005).
His academic credentials include:
- 1962: M.Sc. in Physics from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv
- 1980: Candidate of Physico-Mathematical Sciences (Ph.D.) from same institution
- 1990: Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences from same institution
Professor Bulavin's research pioneers critical phenomena in soft matter, neutron scattering methodologies, and biophysical applications. His seminal work identified the 42°C dynamical phase transition in water (Figure 1), explaining protein denaturation mechanisms in endothermic organisms. Current investigations focus on biocompatible ferrofluids for oncological treatments (Figure 2) and lipid bilayer phase transitions under pressure (Figure 3), bridging fundamental physics with medical innovation.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications reveals dominant themes in nanomaterial characterization (fullerenes, nanodiamonds), nuclear matter thermodynamics, and biomolecular interactions. His group consistently employs neutron scattering techniques to probe structural dynamics, with applications spanning cancer therapy, nuclear energy safety, and green technologies.
His distinguished honors include:
- Corresponding Member of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1995-2005)
- Academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2005-Present)
As Head of the Special Council of Thesis Defense since 1990, he has mentored numerous doctoral candidates. His research program is sustained by major grants including the NATO SPS project "Reliable nuclear materials identification technology" (MYP 985094) and investigations into "external field effects on soft matter molecular processes" for medical and energy applications.
His laboratory maintains advanced neutron scattering capabilities through partnerships with European facilities like Dubna's Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. Current initiatives include developing biologically-compatible ferrofluids for tumor targeting and studying self-organization in fullerene-water systems (Figure 2) for next-generation drug delivery platforms.
