Leonard Tijing

Leonard Tijing is an Associate Professor at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). He serves as Principal Investigator for the ARC Research Hub for Nutrients in a Circular Economy and has held leadership roles including HDR Coordinator for Environmental Engineering (2017-2022) and Faculty Board member (2021-2022). His academic journey includes a PhD from Jeonbuk National University (South Korea) and Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellowship at UTS (2013-2016).

Tijing's research focuses on membrane technology for water purification, particularly addressing high-salinity brine treatment through innovations in solar interfacial evaporation, photothermal membrane distillation, and nutrient recovery systems. His work demonstrates strong alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals 6, 7, 11, and 13.

Recent publications highlight his expertise in advanced membrane systems, including triple-layer nanofiber membranes (2023), electrically conductive membrane distillation (2023), and solar-powered desalination technologies (2025). His 130+ journal articles (H-index 51) address critical challenges in water-energy nexus, demonstrating both theoretical and applied contributions.
