Leonard J. Bohmann

Leonard J. Bohmann is a Research Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan Tech, affiliated with the College of Engineering. He served as interim chair of his department (2007-08) and currently holds the role of associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Engineering.

• Education: PhD, MS, and BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin and University of Dayton
• Research Interests: Integration of renewable energy into power systems, utility applications of power electronics (HVDC, SVC, FACTS), power system dynamics, transients, and student retention

Recent Publications highlight his focus on service systems engineering and interdisciplinary curriculum development, particularly in power systems education. His work bridges academic innovation with industry needs, emphasizing practical applications.

Scientific Awards include the IEEE Student Branch Service Award (2006), Professor of the Year Award (2004), and IEEE Outstanding Engineer Award (2001). He actively contributes to IEEE societies and the American Society for Engineering Education, holding leadership roles in educational committees.

Bohmann led initiatives to transition Michigan Tech's academic calendar from quarters to semesters and developed electric power engineering certificate programs in collaboration with utilities. He also served on the Great Lakes Wind Council, advising on offshore wind energy policy.
