Lenore Blum is a distinguished academic and advocate for women in STEM. She earned her Ph.D. in Mathematics from MIT in 1968 and has held positions at UC Berkeley, Mills College, and the International Computer Science Institute. Currently, she is the Distinguished Career Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science. Her research spans computational complexity, real computation, and mathematical logic. Blum founded the Mathematics and Computer Science department at Mills College and pioneered initiatives like the Expanding Your Horizons program to encourage girls in STEM. She has been recognized with the 2004 Presidential Award for Mentoring and the AWM Emmy Noether Lecture. Her leadership roles include Vice President of the American Mathematical Society and Deputy Director of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI). Blum's work bridges theoretical computer science with education advocacy, emphasizing diversity in computing.
