Leland S. McGee is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (GSE) and Senior Associate Director of the GSE Office of Student Success. He holds a Faculty Affiliate role at the Ethnography in Education Research Forum and is a SCoPE Scholar at Anant National University (ANU), India. His research focuses on education equity, Indigenous Consciousness Education Research (ICER), and community-engaged ethnographic methodologies. Dr. McGee’s work emphasizes leveraging local knowledge systems to foster sustainable educational practices globally.
Dr. McGee earned his M.S.Ed. and Ed.D. in Higher Education from Penn GSE after an extensive legal career, including roles as a New Jersey Administrative Law Judge and legal academic. He co-directs the Penn Experience course, addressing systemic inequities, and co-founded the Writing Commons to support graduate students’ academic writing. He also serves on the Board of Rebel Ventures, a youth-driven enterprise promoting nutrition education in Philadelphia.
His professional contributions span policy development, community partnerships, and innovative educational models, reflecting a commitment to inclusive, learner-centered education across K–20+ settings.
