معرفی
Leif Asbjørn Vøllestad serves as Professor at the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo, and holds Fellow positions at the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis (CEES) since 2007 and the Centre for Computational Inference in Evolutionary Life Science (CELS) since 2014.
He earned his Bachelor (cand. mag.) in 1980, Master (cand. real.) in 1982, and Doctor of Philosophy in 1988, all from the University of Oslo's Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. His professional journey includes consultancy in freshwater biology (1982-1983), PhD scholarship (1983-1985), fisheries management in Østfold County (1985-1991), and researcher positions at the Department of Biology (1986, 1988).
His research integrates Fish ecology, Freshwater biology, Population dynamics, and Evolution with specialized focus on adaptation, phenotypic plasticity, and anthropogenic impacts on fish populations. This work bridges theoretical life history models with practical fish management applications in freshwater ecosystems.
Professor Vøllestad has supervised 44 master's students and 9 PhD candidates to completion while currently mentoring 6 master's students, 8 PhD candidates, and 2 postdoctoral researchers. He serves as Editor for Ecology of Freshwater Fish (since 2005) and Contributing Editor for Aquatic Biology (since 2007).
As principal investigator for over 20 research projects with annual budgets exceeding 100,000 NOK, he currently leads a major Norwegian Research Council-funded initiative. His administrative service includes extensive committee and board participation at departmental and faculty levels.
His research operations are centered within CEES and CELS frameworks, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in computational evolutionary biology and ecological synthesis.
