Dr. Lei Zhang is an Associate Professor at the School of Psychology, University of Birmingham, UK, and directs the Adaptive Learning Psychology and Neuroscience Lab (ALP(e)N Lab). His research focuses on the cognitive, computational, and neurobiological basis of learning and decision-making in health and disease (Computational Psychiatry), integrating neuroimaging (fMRI, TMS) and computational modeling.
- BSc in Psychology, Beijing Normal University, China
- MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience, Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language, Spain
- PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience (summa cum laude), University of Hamburg & University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Germany
Dr. Zhang's work explores adaptive behavior through reinforcement learning, Bayesian methods, and social learning, with applications in pain processing, aversive learning, and psychopathology. His lab investigates how the brain computes social and non-social learning mechanisms using neuroimaging and computational tools.
His recent articles highlight collaborations in computational psychiatry, social neuroscience, and environmental psychology, with a focus on large language models in academia and neural dynamics in decision-making. Notable trends include applications of Bayesian modeling and cross-disciplinary integration of AI with psychological research.
