Lei Lei is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Rutgers University, part of the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS). She earned her Ph.D. from the University at Albany-SUNY in 2016. Her research focuses on social determinants of health, family dynamics, and social inequality in China, India, and the US. Current projects include analyzing how male outmigration affects health in India and exploring factors influencing young adults' prolonged dependence on parents in the US.
Lei teaches courses such as Global Health, Statistical Methods in Sociology, and Multilevel Data Analysis. Her work bridges sociology and public health, examining neighborhood environments' impact on education, child health, and adult well-being. She employs longitudinal data from the Indian Human Development Survey and U.S. datasets to study migration, family structures, and socioeconomic disparities.
Her research also investigates how residential contexts, work conditions, and family relationships shape health inequalities. Recent studies explore the role of gender, race, class, and non-standard employment in delaying adulthood transitions. Lei emphasizes translational research, aiming to inform policies addressing global health inequities and family dynamics.
