Lee Michael Shults is an Associate Professor at the University of Agder, affiliated with the Department of Global Development and Planning. Their research focuses on solidarity, gender studies, and philosophy of science, with leadership roles in the Gender, Power, and Development program and as temporary director of the Center for Gender Equality starting August 1, 2025. They are a member of the international research network 'Motivating Cosmopolitanism'.
Research Interests: Examines the ethical and motivational dimensions of global solidarity, with interdisciplinary connections to gender equality, political science, and development studies. Investigates citizen-led initiatives in global development and their impact on local and transnational networks.
Recent Publications: Explores topics such as parasitical uses of solidarity, participatory ownership in citizen initiatives, and the intersection of cosmopolitanism with humanitarian practices in Lesvos and African translocal networks.
Teaching: Coordinates courses in feminist epistemologies (SV-159-1). Engages in editorial roles for academic journals like Frontiers in Human Dynamics and Frontiers in Political Science.
