- Comparative nutrition ecology of bison subspecies
- Population dynamics of ungulate herds
- Conservation management strategies
Current research contracts with the Government of Alaska, Parks Canada, and the Athabasca-Chipewyan First Nation investigate wood bison reintroduction, dietary ecology, and herd management in resource-extraction landscapes. Hecker holds a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta (2022).
