Lee Eun-Jeung

Lee Eun-Jeung is a Professor and Speaker of the Graduate School of East Asian Studies (GEAS) at Freie Universität Berlin. She specializes in Korean Studies with a focus on political culture, Confucianism, and historical discourse analysis. Her work spans interdisciplinary studies of East Asia-Europe relations, soft power dynamics, and pre-modern Korean intellectual history.

Her research includes analyses of Confucian academies, Joseon-era ethics, and contemporary issues like South Korea’s pandemic-era soft power. She leads the GEAS executive board, overseeing doctoral programs and international collaborations involving institutions like Peking University and the University of Tübingen. Her grants include DFG-funded projects on urban-rural integration and East Asian security.

Lee has advised numerous doctoral candidates and co-authored over 50 publications. She is affiliated with the Institute of East Asian Studies and frequently contributes to academic journals like the Korea Europe Review. Key themes in her work include cultural diplomacy, historical memory, and the interplay between traditional Confucian values and modern governance.
