Leandra Zarnow is an Associate Professor of US and Women's History in the Department of History at the University of Houston's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. She specializes in U.S. women's political, legal, and intellectual history, examining how women influence power centers through social movements. Zarnow earned her Ph.D. in US History with a Doctoral Emphasis in Feminist Studies from UC Santa Barbara and previously taught at Stanford University.
Zarnow's research explores women's transitions from grassroots activism to institutional power, examined through biography and coalitional politics. Her current book project focuses on Heterodoxy, a feminist supper club that developed modern feminist thought. Additional projects include co-authoring a history of women's history scholarship.
She has received numerous fellowships including from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Woodrow Wilson Foundation, and Mellon Foundation. Her teaching integrates community engagement through public history projects like 'Sharing Stories from 1977,' a digital humanities initiative commemorating the 1977 National Women's Conference.
