Leah Carpenter is a Lecturer and Speech-Language Pathologist at Minnesota State University, Mankato, affiliated with the College of Allied Health and Nursing and the Speech, Hearing, and Rehabilitation Services department. She holds a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (2017) and a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences & Disorders (2015), both from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
In her teaching, Carpenter emphasizes safety, regulation, inclusivity, and trust-building, focusing on enriching clinical experiences through real-world perspectives and practical skill development. She teaches CDIS 577: Augmentative and Alternative Communication, aligning with her research interests in AAC, autism, language disorders, and caregiver counseling.
Her professional development includes specialized training in Trauma Informed Therapy for Autistic Individuals, Goal Writing for Autistic Students, Conscious Discipline, and AAC for Gestalt Language Processors. She also holds a certificate in SOS Feeding Therapy, indicating expertise in sensory-based feeding interventions.
Leah's work centers on neurodiversity-affirming practices, disability advocacy, and clinical skill development for speech-language pathology students, particularly in early childhood communication disorders.
