Leah B. Ruppe, MS, CNM, WHNP-BC, is an Instructor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She joined the faculty in September 2013 and serves as Director of the Perinatal HIV Practice, providing specialized obstetric care for pregnant individuals living with HIV.
Her educational background includes a BSN and MSN from Georgetown University, where she completed her undergraduate nursing degree followed by a Master's in Midwifery and Women's Health.
Ms. Ruppe's clinical expertise centers on HIV management during pregnancy and physiologic childbirth, grounded in the midwifery model of care and evidence-based practice. She actively advances women's health through clinical innovation in high-risk obstetric settings and promotes natural birth practices where appropriate.
As an educator, she trains midwifery students, medical students, OB/GYN and Family Medicine residents, and Maternal Fetal Medicine fellows across multiple clinical training programs.
She leads the Perinatal HIV Practice at the University of Maryland, a specialized clinical program integrating comprehensive HIV care into obstetric services for vulnerable populations.
