Lea F. Schweitz joined the faculty of the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 2007, where she teaches theology, philosophy of religion, and religion and science. Her research explores early modern views of humanity and their impact on theological and scientific discourses of the period.
She is committed to interdisciplinary methods, historical analysis, and integrating academic rigor with practical public engagement. Schweitz also serves as the Director of the Zygon Center for Religion and Science, fostering dialogue between religious traditions and scientific knowledge to advance justice and peace.
Her work emphasizes community-building, critical pedagogy, and adapting teaching strategies to contemporary challenges, such as her 2013 blog post Upgrading from “Small Groups” to “Organized Learning Communities” (Wabash Center), which critiques traditional collaborative learning models and advocates for structured group dynamics in theological education.
