Lazar Rusu is a Professor at the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences, Stockholm University, Sweden. With over 40 years of professional experience in both industry and academia in the field of information systems, Professor Rusu holds a prominent position in the academic community. He leads the research groups in IT Management and Governance as well as Digital Transformation at the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV).
Professor Rusu's expertise spans across various educational levels, including undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs. His research interests include business-IT alignment, IT governance, IT outsourcing, and digital transformation. He has been instrumental in leading various grants and research projects in the IT and Education sectors, backed by research funds from EU and national research funding agencies.
Professor Rusu's research focuses on several key areas related to digital transformation in organizations. His ongoing PhD thesis projects examine IT Alignment in Public Organisations, IT Governance Influence on Digital Transformation, and Organizational Culture Influence on Digital Transformation in Public Organizations. These projects explore how formal and informal structures, governance mechanisms, and organizational culture influence IT alignment and digital transformation in various organizational contexts.
Professor Rusu has been recognized with several prestigious awards including being named a Distinguished Member of the Association for Information Systems, receiving the IBM Academic Award (2020), and the Outstanding Reviewer Award at Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS 2020).
Throughout his career, Professor Rusu has held various short-term positions including roles as a visiting research fellow at the University of Brighton (1998) and Manchester Metropolitan University (2000) in the UK, a visiting researcher (postdoctoral position) and senior researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden (2002-2005; 2008-2009), and a visiting professor at Antwerp Management School, Belgium (2019-2020).
