Lawrence LaPlue is an Associate Professor and Director of the Doctor of Economic Development (DED) program at the College of Business, New Mexico State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Tennessee (2016) with a dissertation focusing on environmental effects of trade. His research interests span International Economics, Environmental Policy, and Political Economy, emphasizing the intersection of trade dynamics and environmental outcomes. He teaches courses on microeconomics, macroeconomics, international trade, and sustainable economic development.
LaPlue’s scholarly work includes peer-reviewed publications in journals like the Canadian Journal of Economics and Environmental Economics and Policy Studies. His research explores topics such as natural gas policy impacts, border control effects on crime, and decomposition of emissions across industries. Notable projects include analyzing post-recession regional development and the environmental consequences of trade and outsourcing.
He maintains active research collaborations on environmental economics, energy policy, and economic development. His teaching extends to mentoring students in practical business scenarios through initiatives like Market Place Live. LaPlue is affiliated with the Department of Economics, Applied Statistics, and International Business at NMSU, contributing to both academic and applied economic research initiatives.
