Laurie Mischley is an associate clinical investigator at the Bastyr University Research Institute and affiliated with the School of Naturopathic Medicine. Her research focuses on nutritional requirements in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinson’s Disease (PD), and the application of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). She has held principal investigator roles in multiple NIH- and foundation-funded studies since 2010.
Education highlights include a Naturopathic Doctorate (ND) from Bastyr University (2001), a PhD in Nutrition from the University of Washington (2016), and an MPH in Epidemiology (UW, 2009). Her work bridges radiology, epidemiology, and clinical research, emphasizing translational applications.
Research interests include intranasal glutathione therapy for PD, CAM use patterns in chronic neurological diseases, and cannabis therapeutic effects. Her studies often combine observational cohorts with randomized trials to assess therapy efficacy and safety.
Notable projects include a Phase I safety study of intranasal glutathione (2015–present) and observational cohorts examining CAM use in PD and MS patients. She has pioneered outcome measures for PD severity and developed the Cannabis Use Survey to inform policy and clinical practices.
Dr. Mischley has served on Bastyr’s Institutional Review Board since 2010 and mentors students in integrative medicine research. She founded NeurRx, a social purpose corporation, and authored books on natural therapies for PD and cannabis use insights.
