Laurie Brinklow is an Assistant Professor at the University of Prince Edward Island, affiliated with the Institute of Island Studies, where she serves as Chair of the Executive Committee and Coordinator of the Master of Arts in Island Studies (MAIS) and the Undergraduate Island Studies Minor. She plays a central role in advancing island scholarship globally through teaching, research, and leadership.
Her research centers on islandness, island identity, climate resilience, and the interplay between art and geography. She explores how place, story, and cultural expression shape island communities, with a particular focus on narrative, knowledge mobilization, and environmental policy. Her work bridges humanities, geography, and public engagement.
The recent publications reflect a strong interdisciplinary trend, combining geography, environmental studies, cultural anthropology, and the arts, with recurring themes of isolation, resilience, storytelling, and sustainability. Many works involve international collaboration, reflecting her commitment to global island knowledge networks.
