Laurie Battle serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Montana Technological University since 2010, with prior appointments as Assistant Professor at Montana Tech (2006-2007, 2008-2010), Visiting Assistant Professor at Idaho State University (2007-2008), and Assistant Professor at Georgia College and State University (2003-2006).
Her research centers on applied mathematics with emphasis on mathematical biology, including stochastic simulation models for native/non-native trout interactions in Idaho's Snake River and current collaboration on Formosan landlocked salmon conservation in Taiwan. She actively mentors undergraduate researchers and organizes the Create Math Summer Experience program.
Dr. Battle's publications demonstrate dual expertise: mathematical analysis (Sturm-Liouville problems, eigenvalue theory) and ecological modeling for species conservation. Her mathematical work investigates solution dependence on parameters, while ecological research applies simulation to fisheries management and endangered species viability.
She received a Fulbright Scholarship to Taiwan in 2014. Her teaching portfolio spans College Algebra through Advanced Calculus, and she performs piano, clarinet, and saxophone with the Butte Symphony and Big Band.
