Laurie Arnold

Laurie Arnold is a Professor of History and Director of Native American Studies at Gonzaga University, holding both roles since August 2013. His research focuses on Indigenous Columbia Plateau, Indian Gaming, and Mourning Dove, a Native American author and activist. He explores topics such as tribal sovereignty, cultural preservation, and historical legacies of Indigenous communities.

His scholarship spans disciplines including Indigenous Studies and History, addressing themes like archival research, legal frameworks, and socio-economic impacts of Indian gaming. He has contributed to understanding the National Indian Gaming Association’s role in regulatory policy and the legacy of Christine Quintasket (Mourning Dove), a Colville tribal member and prominent writer.

Notably, his work analyzes the Colville Confederated Tribes’ experiences with U.S. termination policies and the ethical dimensions of cultural heritage. Arnold emphasizes pedagogy and academic program development to strengthen Indigenous studies initiatives.
