Lauri Valtteri Ahonen is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Helsinki, Department of Education, affiliated with the High Performance Cognition group. His work spans cognitive science, neuroscience, and data science, focusing on avalanche safety, human decision-making in outdoor environments, and risk analysis.
Recent research includes systematic reviews of avalanche fatalities, comparative studies of professional and recreational winter-sports practitioners, and GPS-based analyses of terrain navigation. Key subfields include decision-making under uncertainty, snowpack evaluation, and cognitive biases in slope perception.
He contributes to funded projects such as Niemi: DAIA (2023–2025, Business Finland) and AiPerCog (Academy of Finland, 2023–2027). Active in conferences, he presented at the International Snow Science Workshop (2024) and has published 14 research outputs since 2016.
