Lauri Mälksoo is a Professor of International Law at the University of Tartu, where he serves in the Faculty of Social Sciences' School of Law. He is also a Member of the Institut de Droit International and the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. His research focuses on public international law, human rights, and constitutional law, with a specialization in the history of international law in Russia and post-Soviet states.

Key awards include the Estonian National Science Award (2017) and the Marshall Shulman Book Prize (2016). He leads the 'Russia and the Consolidation of Regional International Law in Eurasia' research project (2020–2025). Active in academic leadership, he co-edits the Baltic Yearbook of International Law and serves on editorial and advisory boards globally.
