Lauri Hyers is a Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology at West Chester University's College of Sciences and Mathematics. Her research examines discrimination, activism, diversity, intergroup relations, and identity through social psychological frameworks.
Professor Hyers earned her PhD from Pennsylvania State University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including Multicultural Psychology, Statistics, Social Psychology, Psychology of Women, and specialized seminars on activism and qualitative methods.
Her research employs diverse methodologies including diary studies, qualitative analysis, and mixed-methods approaches to investigate everyday experiences of prejudice, resilience in marginalized groups, and psychological responses to social crises. Recent work explores pandemic-related emotional adaptation and historical trauma resilience using archival diaries.
Professor Hyers has published extensively on discrimination response strategies, identity formation, and methodological innovations in qualitative research. Her book Diary Methods: Understanding Qualitative Research (Oxford University Press) establishes best practices for diary methodology.
She is currently investigating climate change perceptions and coping with dystopian futures, continuing her interdisciplinary approach to social justice issues.
