معرفی
Laurent Legault, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics (Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism) at McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and a Scientist in the Child Health and Human Development Program at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC). His clinical and research activities are carried out at the Montreal Children’s Hospital of the MUHC.
Research Focus:
- Development and clinical translation of closed-loop (artificial pancreas) systems for type 1 diabetes, including dual-hormone (insulin + glucagon or pramlintide) configurations.
- Prevention and management of obesity and its metabolic sequelae, with emphasis on pediatric populations.
- Exercise physiology in type 1 diabetes, investigating real-time insulin adjustment strategies to reduce hypoglycaemia risk.
- Population-level surveillance of paediatric diabetes incidence and outcomes.
Across more than 80 peer-reviewed publications since 2013, Legault’s work demonstrates a clear translational trajectory—from in-silico algorithm design, through controlled in-clinic and camp crossover trials, to multicentre outpatient and home-use studies—always integrating continuous glucose monitoring and patient-centred usability endpoints.
Scientific Awards & Recognition:
No specific named awards or honours are listed in the supplied documents; however, continuous funding and leadership roles in multicentre RCTs (e.g., NIH-JDRF, CIHR, Diabetes Canada) indicate sustained peer recognition.
Funding & Teams:
Legault leads or co-leads several interdisciplinary teams spanning biomedical engineers, behavioural scientists, and pediatric nurse educators. His laboratory benefits from RI-MUHC core facilities including the Centre for Innovative Medicine, advanced imaging platforms, and the MUHC Clinical Research Unit, supporting seamless bench-to-bedside workflows.
