Laurent Dala is a Professor of Aerospace Engineering at Northumbria University, where he is affiliated with the Department of Aerospace Engineering. Previously, he held the Chair in Aerospace Engineering and led the Aerospace Research Group at the University of Pretoria until 2016. His expertise spans Aerodynamics, Aeroelasticity, Aeroacoustics, Flight Mechanics, and Multidisciplinary Optimization. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Chartered Engineer (CEng/Eur-Ing), and former President of the Aeronautical Society of South Africa (AeSSA).
Dr. Dala’s educational background includes a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Manchester, alongside degrees from French Grandes Écoles such as ESTA (Aerospace Engineering) and ESTP (Mechanical/Electrical Engineering). His research employs analytical, experimental, and computational methods, particularly in transonic flow control, aeroacoustics, and multidisciplinary optimization for aerospace systems.
His publications focus on advanced control strategies for autonomous systems, noise reduction in aerofoils, wind turbine aerodynamics, and nonlinear dynamics of marine vehicles. He supervises doctoral research on aerodynamics and aeroacoustics in vehicle platoons and has contributed to major projects like the EU’s FP6 NACRE initiative.
