Laurence Williams

Laurence Williams OBE is a Professor of Nuclear Policy and Regulation at the School of Computing and Engineering, Bangor University. He holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Liverpool Polytechnic (1970) and an MSc in Nuclear Reactor Technology from the University of Aston in Birmingham (1972).

His research focuses on nuclear safety, security, and regulation, including fusion power plant safety, radioactive waste management, and international regulatory frameworks. Current projects include developing Design Safety Guidelines for fusion plants and studying tritium fuel cycles.

Prof. Williams has contributed to over 25 peer-reviewed publications since 1979. His work emphasizes harmonizing global nuclear safety standards and addressing societal impacts of nuclear energy. He serves on advisory panels for the Singapore Ministry of Environment and the UK's Committee on Radioactive Waste Management.
