Laurence Whitehead

Laurence Whitehead is a researcher at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA), specifically affiliated with the GIGA Institute for Latin American Studies since 2018. He also holds an Official Fellow in Politics at Nuffield College, University of Oxford since 1969.

Research Interests include:

• Comparative Democratization with a focus on Latin America and Mexico
• Political Accountability and Participation in subnational contexts
• International Relations of Cuba post-Castro era
• Interaction of Formal and Informal Institutions in democratization processes
