Lauren Young is a Ph.D. candidate in Biodiversity Management at the University of Kent's Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE), where she focuses on interdisciplinary methods to combat elephant ivory trafficking. She concurrently serves as a Research Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), studying transnational environmental crime, cyber-enabled wildlife crime in Southeast Asia, and illegal fishing linked to climate change. Additionally, she is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of West London.
Her educational background includes an MSc (Distinction) in Conservation and International Wildlife Trade from DICE and a BA (Hons) in History from University College London. Lauren actively contributes to conservation efforts through her role coordinating Esperanza Verde, a Peruvian Amazon wildlife rescue project, and engages in public outreach via BBC Radio 4’s 'Costing the Earth', op-eds, and her podcast 'Net Earth'.
Lauren teaches courses such as 'Conservation Policy and Practice' and 'International Wildlife Trade'. Her research emphasizes sustainable natural resource management and combating organized crime networks involved in environmental degradation.
