Lauren Peritz is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Davis. Her research focuses on international political economy, applying statistical methods for causal inference. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and an M.S. in Statistics from UCLA, as well as a B.S. in Engineering from Cornell University. Prior to academia, she worked as a patent agent at WilmerHale in Boston, specializing in semiconductor and nanotechnology patent prosecution.
Her work examines how international courts facilitate economic cooperation between countries and how domestic politics mediate these effects. Key areas include judicial compliance mechanisms, trade policy design, and the role of third parties in global trade regimes. Recent projects involve machine learning with text-as-data methods.
Lauren held a visiting fellowship at Princeton University's Niehaus Center for Globalization and Governance during the 2016-17 academic year. Her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the Hellman Fellows Program. A notable collaboration with Dr. Russ, Dr. Stahmer, and Dr. Tai received the 2024 UC Davis L&S Unites grant for studying commercial determinants of global public health.
