Lauren Munro is an Assistant Professor in the School of Disability Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University. She is an activist-academic with expertise in Mad studies, Fat studies, and 2SLGBTQ+ health research.
Her research employs qualitative and arts-based methods to examine weight stigma, healthcare access barriers for marginalized communities, and microaggressions against LGBTQ+ youth. Recent publications explore digital interventions for body image, health service accessibility for trans women with HIV, and fat embodiment.
Munro teaches courses on madness history, research methodologies, and community projects. She received the Doctoral Award for Teaching Excellence from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2021 for her innovative pedagogical approaches.
