Lauren Fitzgerald is a Professor in the Department of English at Yeshiva University and Director of the Wilf Campus Writing Center since 1997. She oversees a program supporting thousands of writers across the university community through student tutors and faculty consultants. Her academic roles include teaching courses on academic writing, rhetoric, Global Englishes, Romantic-period literature, ghost stories in literature, and the history of authorship.
Dr. Fitzgerald holds a PhD from New York University (1998) and a BA from the University of Tulsa (1984). Her research focuses on writing pedagogy and literary history, with notable publications including The Oxford Guide for Writing Tutors: Practice and Research (2015) and co-editing The Writing Center Journal (2008–2013).
Her awards include the 2010 Phoenix Award for editorial excellence and the 2020 Ron Maxwell Award for leadership in collaborative learning. She has received multiple grants, including the 2012 and 2017 Chelst-funded projects. Recent courses include Authorship: Plato to Wikipedia and Romantic Revolutions.
The Writing Center under her direction has become a cornerstone of Yeshiva’s academic support, emphasizing peer tutoring and interdisciplinary collaboration. Fitzgerald’s work bridges literary analysis with practical writing education, fostering both scholarly and pedagogical innovation.
