Lauren Elrick is a Lecturer in Technology Law and PhD researcher at the University of Groningen, dually enrolled with the 'Mihai Viteazul' National Intelligence Academy, Romania. She specializes in the intersection of human rights, security, and technology, particularly focusing on privacy-security balances in border security ecosystems. Her research is part of the EU-funded ESSENTIAL Project (Horizon 2020), addressing systemic security challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Education: LLB in Scots Law with European Legal Studies (University of Aberdeen, UK), LLM in International Human Rights Law (University of Groningen). She also studied at the University of Helsinki during her undergraduate years.
Research Interests: Balancing privacy and security, impacts of digital technologies on human rights (privacy/data protection/non-discrimination), holistic security approaches, and legal frameworks for emerging technologies. She is a member of the Security, Technology and e-Privacy (STeP) Research Group.
Teaching Responsibilities: Courses include Data Protection and Human Rights, Legal English, IT for Lawyers, and the Research Colloquium within the International and European Law LLB Programme.
