Dr. Laure Guirguis is a Research Fellow at the Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) since March 2023, focusing on transregional networks between the Arab world and the Southern Cone. She combines socio-historical, political, and cultural approaches to analyze artistic practices' role in power dynamics and resistance from the 1920s–2020s. Current projects include Power, Culture, and Resistance under the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
- Education: Ph.D. in Political Studies (EHESS, 2011), M.A. in Political Philosophy (Paris Nanterre, 2003), B.A. in Chinese Language (INALCO, 1997)
Research Themes: Cultural entanglements, sectarianism in Egypt, transnational leftist movements, state violence, and artistic institutions' political mobilization. Her work spans anti-authoritarian struggles, religious conversions, and Cold War ideological exchanges.
Scientific Trends: Analyzes 20th-21st-century artistic/political networks between Arab diasporas and Latin America, focusing on resistance, solidarity, and state strategies. Publications explore Coptic-Egyptian relations, Arab New Left, and cross-regional revolutionary parallels.
