Laura Terrance is an Akwesasne Mohawk (Wolf Clan) scholar serving as an Assistant Professor of Indigenous Studies at the University of Buffalo. She holds a PhD in Gender Studies from UCLA, an MA in Ethnic Studies from UC San Diego, and a BS in English from SUNY Brockport. Her research examines violence, civility, and embodiment within settler colonial contexts, employing Indigenous and Black feminist frameworks to analyze anti-colonial resistance tactics. She has presented at Native American and Indigenous Studies conferences and the American Studies Association, focusing on intersections of Indigeneity and Blackness through cultural production.

Her work interrogates state-sanctioned colonial violence against racialized groups through analyses of literature, film, and archival practices. Recent scholarship includes examining Zitkala-Sa’s Native feminist archival strategies. She previously served as a UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellow before joining UB’s faculty.
