Laura Stevens is an Associate Professor of Climate and Earth Surface Processes in the Earth Sciences department at the University of Oxford and a Supernumerary Fellow at University College. Her research focuses on ice sheet dynamics, particularly how melting modulates ice flow in Greenland and Antarctica. She employs geophysical observations, computational modeling, and machine learning to study meltwater pathways and their impacts on ice stability.
Teaching includes courses on climate processes, statistics for Earth scientists, climate change dynamics, and hazards through the Intelligent Earth CDT program. Current projects involve NSF/NERC-funded studies on Greenland meltwater pathways (2023–2026), Antarctic ice-shelf instability via field observations and modeling, and Greenland ice-sheet deformation patterns using radar and geodetic data.
She holds leadership roles as Deputy Director for Graduate Studies, Mental Health First Aider in Earth Sciences, and co-leads the LGBTQIA+ Affinity Group. She is part of the UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training in AI for the Environment (Intelligent Earth).
