Laura Slatkin is Professor of Classical Studies at New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study and Visiting Professor in the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago, with additional teaching in NYU's Prison Education Program.

Her research centers on ancient Greek literary traditions, specializing in early Greek poetry and Athenian drama. Dr. Slatkin has produced significant scholarship on Homeric epics and tragedies by Aeschylus (including Persae) and Sophocles (notably Antigone). Her current work investigates the semantic and conceptual dimensions of phusis (nature) in 5th-century BCE Greek literature, particularly within Athenian tragedy, building on her participation in the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science's 1999-2000 workshop on the "Moral Authority of Nature".
