معرفی
Laura Sevilla-Lara is a Reader (Associate Professor) at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh, and an ELLIS Scholar. She is affiliated with the Institute of Perception, Action and Behaviour (IPAB) within the School of Informatics, which is ranked #1 in AI in Europe.
Her research focuses on understanding the visual world in motion, investigating what video reveals about the world's properties, state, and estimation methods. Key areas include video representations, high-level perceptual tasks involving video, joint video-language learning, and associated machine learning challenges. Her work emphasizes temporal modeling and efficient computation for video analysis.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals strong trends in action recognition, temporal modeling, and efficient network design for video understanding. Her research consistently addresses computational efficiency (e.g., FASTER reducing computation by an order of magnitude) while maintaining accuracy, and explores novel applications like video-language integration.
- Google Scholar Award 2022
- ELLIS Scholar
She actively mentors PhD students including Shreyank N Gowda (now postdoc at Oxford), Anil, Davide, Gen, Kiyoon Kim, and Jack. Her team has produced multiple publications at top venues like CVPR, ECCV, and AAAI. She collaborates extensively within Edinburgh's AI ecosystem and secures funding through awards like the Google Scholar Award. Current projects include developing benchmarks for temporal information in videos and exploring motion understanding applications.
Laura leads the Computer Vision for Global Challenges initiative and co-organizes workshops on video understanding applications in humanitarian contexts. Her lab focuses on making computer vision robust through data/task diversification, with projects spanning species recognition, garbage collection systems, and assistive technology for the visually impaired.
