Laura Quinton, PhD, is the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies and a Lecturer in Theater, Dance & Media at Harvard University, with an affiliation to the Department of History & Literature. She joined Harvard in 2022 and continues to engage with interdisciplinary humanities research. Quinton holds a PhD in History from New York University (2021) and has held postdoctoral roles including Resident Fellow at NYU’s Center for Ballet and the Arts and Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in NYU’s College Core Curriculum.
Her research focuses on the intersection of cultural forms, power dynamics, and global history. Her forthcoming book, *Ballet Imperial: Dance and the New British Empire* (Harvard University Press), examines ballet’s role as a tool of British soft power and elite cultural identity. Her work has been supported by prestigious fellowships and has been published in outlets such as *The New York Review of Books*, *The Historical Journal*, and *Twentieth Century British History*.
Quinton’s teaching emphasizes critical analysis of arts and cultural production to explore themes of politics, identity, and global history. She has designed courses that bridge disciplinary boundaries, fostering engagement with complex historical narratives through cultural artifacts.
Her awards include fellowships from the Harvard Provostial Fund, NYU Center for the Humanities, Mellon Foundation/CLIR, and Barnard College’s Alumnae Association. She has also contributed to academic initiatives at both Harvard and NYU, including curriculum development and interdisciplinary research projects.
