معرفی
Dr. Laura Parker is an Indigenous Scientia Senior Lecturer and ARC DAATSIA Fellow at the University of New South Wales, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences. Her research program focuses on understanding climate change impacts on marine ecosystems, with specialization in physiological and molecular responses of oysters to environmental stressors.
Her research investigates:
- Resilience mechanisms in marine molluscs under ocean acidification and warming
- Transgenerational physiological and epigenetic adaptations
- Restoration of culturally significant oyster habitats
- Integration of Indigenous ecological knowledge into conservation
- Future-proofing strategies for Australia's oyster industry
Her recent publications (2019-2025) demonstrate strong research trends in:
- Climate change impacts on oyster physiology and reproduction
- Microbiome dynamics under environmental stress
- Conservation strategies integrating Indigenous knowledge
- Transgenerational plasticity in marine organisms
- Ecological restoration of shellfish reefs
Awards and recognition:
- 2018 Young Tall Poppy Science Award
Research leadership includes:
- Current PhD and Honours supervision: Claire Luger (transgenerational salinity responses)
- Past students: Mitchell Gibbs (PhD), Elliot Scanes (PhD), John Wright (PhD)
- Major grants: ARC Discovery Indigenous grant (2019-present), Environmental Trust grant (2017-2020), ARC Indigenous Discovery grant (2014-2017)
She collaborates extensively with marine research teams at UNSW, focusing on oyster resilience and coastal ecosystem restoration, with frequent partnerships with Professor Pauline Ross and Dr. Wayne O'Connor.
