Laura Mosqueda, MD is a Professor of Family Medicine and Geriatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, with tenure. She serves as Director of the National Center on Elder Abuse and has held leadership roles including Chair of the Department of Family Medicine, Associate Dean of Primary Care, and Dean. Her research focuses on elder abuse prevention, caregiver support, and medical education innovation. She leads an NIH-funded study on dementia-related abuse and has pioneered tools like the ED Senior AID for elder abuse detection in emergency settings.
Her academic contributions span over 150 publications, with recent work emphasizing financial exploitation vulnerability, nursing home abuse dynamics, and person-centered care strategies. Awards include the David H. Solomon Memorial Award (2021), Vanguard Award for Elder Abuse Prevention (2019), and multiple recognitions for clinical excellence and mentoring.
Dr. Mosqueda’s work bridges clinical practice, policy, and education. She co-developed the Geriatric Injury Documentation Tool (Geri-IDT) and advocates for interdisciplinary elder justice frameworks. Her current initiatives address elder abuse during the pandemic and expand access to care for underserved aging populations.
