Dr. Laura Kor is an Innovation Fellow in Conservation Science at the University of Kent’s Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology. She holds a PhD from King’s College London and the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew (2024), focusing on Colombia’s useful plant species conservation. Her work bridges ecological and social systems, emphasizing area-based conservation, natural resource management, and aligning global priorities with local knowledge. Previously, she led a biodiversity team at a global engineering consultancy, applying biodiversity policy in projects worldwide.
Her research interests include spatial conservation planning via Important Plant Areas (IPAs), business-biodiversity integration, and sustainable use of wild plants. Key contributions include evaluating IPAs globally and co-producing conservation strategies with local communities in Colombia. She is a Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (MCIEEM) and a Member of the Royal Society of Biology (MRSB).
Publications highlight her interdisciplinary focus: from Colombia’s plant conservation and bee toxicity studies to habitat connectivity assessments in the UK. Her work on London’s urban plants underscores the role of folklore in inspiring conservation engagement. The E3 ‘Sharing Space for Nature’ initiative reflects her drive to translate research into practical conservation solutions.
