Dr. Laura Kaltwasser is a Research Fellow at the Department of Psychology, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. She serves as Principal Investigator in two DFG-funded research groups: SPP 'The Active Self' (since 2019) and RTG 'Extrospection' (since 2018). Previously, she was a Postdoc (2016–2018) at the Berlin School of Mind and Brain under Prof. Vittorio Gallese. Her education includes a PhD in Biological Psychology (2016, Summa cum laude, funded by Studienstiftung) and a Master's in Psychology (2012) from Humboldt-Universität. She studied at UC Berkeley as a DAAD-funded visiting scholar (2010–2011).
Research Interests: Socio-cultural identity, emotions in social interaction, face cognition, empathy, socio-economic decisions, inter-individual differences, and methodologies like EEG/fMRI.
Scientific Contributions: Key studies include the neurophysiology of cinema experiences, computational models of self in schizophrenia, and the role of mindfulness in neural activity. She co-leads the #EEGManyLabs initiative to validate EEG experiments.
Awards: Summa cum laude PhD honor, DAAD and Studienstiftung fellowships.
Grants & Students: Supervised 12 students across doctoral/master's programs. Active in DFG grants and collaborations with institutions like Hasso-Plattner Institut and Max Planck Institute for Human Development.
