Laura Junker-Frohn is a Researcher at the Jülich Research Centre within the Institute of Bio- und Geosciences (IBG), specifically in the Plant Sciences department (IBG-2). As a member of the Jülich Plant Phenotyping Center (JPPC) group, she focuses on sustainable solutions to improve plant production through advanced phenotyping techniques and environmental stress response analysis.
Her primary research interests include:
- Non-invasive plant phenotyping methodologies
- Remote sensing applications in agriculture
- Photosynthesis efficiency under stress conditions
- Plant responses to drought and nutrient deficiencies
- Bioeconomy applications in crop production
Dr. Junker-Frohn leads significant research initiatives:
- CropInno: Using image-based phenotyping to study sunflower seedling development under drought conditions in collaboration with international partners from Germany, Italy, and Spain
- BIMOTEC: Investigating buckwheat as a dual-purpose crop for food and biobased compounds through phenotyping, transcriptomics, and metabolomics approaches
Her methodological expertise spans physiological measurements, spectral reflectance analysis, sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence, and RGB-imaging at multiple scales. She actively supervises MSc and PhD students while collaborating with institutions including IPK Gatersleben, IME Münster, University of Hohenheim, and Phytowelt GreenTechnologies GmbH.
